Why Red Aglaonemas are so popular?

Aglaonema is one of the most elegant plants to keep in our garden or inside our homes. There’s a wide variety of shapes and shades among the plants of this species.

Its leaves can be very large or smaller, and they can be a deep red, pink, or green depending on the variety. But one of the most striking and elegant ones is the so-called Red Aglaonema. While most indoor plants have green leaves, this one looks like it was painted by an artist using a palette of beautiful colors: reds, pinks, and even orange.

1) It’s fantastic for pots
One of the advantages of this plant is that it can be kept in a pot. This makes it ideal for placing in the living room, dining room, bathroom, or any corner that needs a focal point. When choosing a pot, make sure to pick one that highlights the colors of your plant’s leaves—maybe a white pot to create a nice contrast.

2) It’s super easy to care for
Another great thing about this plant is that it’s one of the easiest species to care for indoors. When transplanting, you can use ready-made potting soil and a pot with good drainage. Keep in mind that overwatering can rot the roots of your indoor plants.

Since it’s a tropical plant, environmental humidity is an important factor in keeping it healthy. So when choosing a place for it in your home, make sure it’s somewhere with good light and ventilation, but away from air conditioning or heating.

3) It thrives even with artificial light
Like all plants, Aglaonema needs some kind of light for photosynthesis and to stay healthy. One of its advantages is that it adapts to places with either natural or artificial light. What matters most is that it gets light—whether soft, medium, or strong—but never direct sunlight.

You can place it near a window with diffused light or under an artificial light source, like the white lights in an office, bathroom, or kitchen.

4) Easy to propagate
This is one of those plants that seem magical, because you can get many more from a single one. The secret is to keep it healthy so it starts producing shoots at its base. These can be carefully removed and planted in other pots.

If your plant has outgrown its pot, you can also divide it into two or more parts for propagation. It’s important that each part, as well as the shoots, has a good portion of stem, roots, and leaves.

5) It purifies the air in your home
As if everything mentioned wasn’t enough, this plant also purifies the air everyone breathes at home. Many household cleaning and maintenance products release pollutants into the air that we end up inhaling daily. Among these pollutants are toluene and xylene. Aglaonema works for you by removing them from the air while beautifying your space.

6) It doesn’t require pruning
Another benefit of this lovely plant is that it doesn’t shed leaves all over the house, nor does it require regular pruning. Aglaonema’s leaves stay in place even as they dry out. Also, they tend to stay a similar size even when fully grown.

7) Other important characteristics
Like many other ornamental plants, whether indoors or outdoors, the Red Aglaonema is not for human or animal consumption. So it should be kept out of reach of children or pets. None of its parts should ever be put in the mouth.

When transplanting or dividing it for propagation, it’s also a good idea to wear plastic gloves to avoid contact with the sap, as it can cause rashes on sensitive skin.
