Early spring indoor plant care

Early spring is a refreshing time for indoor plants. As daylight hours increase and temperatures gradually rise, houseplants begin to wake from their slower winter growth cycle.

This seasonal shift makes it the perfect opportunity to refresh your plant care routine and set your greenery up for a thriving growing season.

One of the first steps in early spring plant care is evaluating light exposure. With the sun changing position, areas that were dim in winter may now receive bright, indirect light. Consider rotating your pots every couple of weeks to encourage even growth and prevent leaning. If you grow tropical favorites like the Monstera deliciosa or the Ficus elastica, this is especially important as they naturally grow toward light sources.

Spring is also an ideal time to resume regular watering and feeding. Many indoor plants require more frequent watering as they enter active growth, but always check soil moisture before adding water. Begin fertilizing with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer at half strength to avoid overwhelming roots that are just becoming active again. Repotting is another key task if roots have become crowded over winter dormancy.

Finally, take time to prune and clean your plants. Remove yellowing leaves, trim leggy growth, and wipe dust from foliage to improve photosynthesis. Inspect for pests that may have developed during the winter months when indoor air is dry. With just a bit of attention in early spring, your indoor garden will be well-prepared to flourish in the months ahead.
