Aglaonema Net Pots

What are the plastic baskets on my Aglaonema?

We call these net pots, and we use them to propagate our Aglaonema crop. We’ve found that using these net pots helps us provide the highest quality plants.

Are they beneficial in any way?

For us as we start our Aglaonema crops, yes they are beneficial. These net pots allow our growers to produce high-quality plants. The roots are able to grow through spaces in the baskets, so these net pots don’t impede root growth.

Will they hurt my Aglaonema?

No, not in the short term. While these net pots shouldn't impact the health of the plant for several years, over the long term they can cause the plant to decline. We are investigating alternatives to these plastic net pots, but haven't yet found an option that doesn't bring down plant quality.

Do I need to remove the net pots?

You don’t need to remove the net pots when you get the plant, but we would advise removing them between the third and fifth year—perhaps the next time you repot your Aglaonema. After five years, they can potentially cause restriction of the stems.

Are you looking at alternatives to the plastic net pots?

Yes, our growers are actively looking for and testing other propagation options. Unfortunately, they have yet to find an alternative that doesn’t negatively impact the overall quality of the plants.
